Strengthening partnership between Mauritius and Kenya to promote the Textile and Apparel industry

Unlocking the Opportunities and Potential between Mauritius & Kenya

Mauritius has long been an advocate for developing economic bridges with other African States, leveraging its position as a strategically located country for trade and investment. With the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement serving as the leading framework for boosting intra-African trade, it remains instrumental for Mauritius to leverage on this treaty to boost trade, explore and tap into new markets beyond South Africa.

Mauritius is emerging as a major sourcing hub for Textile & Apparel. Despite low-cost competition from Asia, the industry has successfully navigated its way through a plethora of challenges from being a basic producer to now a vertically integrated supplier of design-led garments, able to cater for the needs of a wide spectrum of buyers with a wide range of options, in terms of price points, volumes and runs.

In line with its objective to enhance the visibility of Mauritius as a reliable sourcing destination for Textile and Apparel in Kenya, the Manufacturing Directorate of the Economic Development Board (EDB) will be hosting an interactive online discussion on Thursday 29th July 2021 at 14h00 (Kenya time), to share industry insights and delve into the world of sustainable fashion in order to boost business resilience.
