The Government of Gujarat is organizing the 9th edition of Vibrant Gujarat, a bi-annual event themed "Shaping a New India" which will be held from 18th to 20th January 2019 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
Gujarat has a population of over 60 million and a GDP of USD 151 billion. The State of Gujarat accounts for more than 22% of India’s exports, 17% of India’s industrial output and 40% of India’s ports cargo is handled by Gujarat ports. In 2016-17, FDI into the State accounted for USD 3.367 billion.
The top 5 sectors which have attracted FDI include automobile, telecommunications, cement & gypsum, power and chemicals (other than fertilizers).
Gujarat is also home to the GIFT City which is being positioned as India’s hub with world class infrastructure for offshore and international transactions in banking, insurance and capital markets.
Another major activity is diamond processing in Surat, Gujarat.
The State Government has embarked on a major project known as Diamond Research & Mercantile City (DREAM City). The project will be developed on 810 hectares of land near Ahmedabad as a mixed-use development Smart City that will have office space, residential areas and facilities for the residences.
The Surat Diamond Bourse, India's second diamond trading centre, will operate from the DREAM City and will be involved in trading unpolished diamonds and manufacturing polished diamonds. The Diamond Bourse is expected to have services for import and export of diamonds, as well as banking and insurance services. Presently, diamonds are polished at Surat and traded at India's sole diamond exchange, Bharat Diamond Bourse, in Mumbai.
The Government of Gujarat also announced plans to set up a textile university at DREAM City.
Vibrant Gujarat 2019 will comprise a Summit with conferences and seminars, a Global Trade Show and an Africa Day.
Africa Day – 19 January 2019
While previous editions of the event have focused on investment in Gujarat, the organisers are providing a platform for investment opportunities in other countries at Vibrant Gujarat 2019. Thus, countries will be given the opportunity to promote their country for investment.
Africa is a key partner in the economic development strategy of India. More than 160 delegates from 18 African countries had participated at the 2017 edition. An Africa countries seminar was organized. As part of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2019, a dedicated ‘Africa Day’ event will be organized on 19th January 2019 to provide a platform for global leaders and industry captains to discuss opportunities for strategic partnership, trade and investment and further enhance the bilateral trade relations between India and Africa. A dedicated Africa Pavilion will be also be setup in the exhibition area or African and Indian companies to showcase products and services of mutual interest.

The venue for the 9th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit is the Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar which is a world class facility for international conferences. It is located 20 kms away from Ahmedabad International Airport.

Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar have a wide range of hotels. The State Government has made special arrangements for delegates to avail preferential rates and services at a variety of hotels in and around Gandhinagar.
