Nanda Narrainen, head of the creative industries sector at the EDB stated, “In most countries around the world, Art is considered not only as an asset, but one that generates value. It is a component of investment in auction houses. Nevertheless, in Mauritius, we have not yet reached the level of sophistication where the value of Art is being appreciated from an economic and investment perspective. Therefore, there is a need to enhance the knowledge of Mauritians in the concept of investment, risk management as well as technological evolution represented by the NFT.”

In line with this, international experts together with local blockchain experts such as Benito Elisa, director of Wakanda 4.0 will be present at the International Art Fair to initiate capacity building working sessions on virtual assets dedicated to companies. Moreover, a discussion panel on the “Tokenization of Arts” will also be on the agenda to raise awareness about NFT. Furthermore, the launch of 'Arts Connects Women in Digital', the first digital platform for women on the NFT is also planned for this second edition of MIAF.

For Zaahirah Muthy, Director of ZEE Arts, "With the collective support of the EDB and other partners, this event has the vision of promoting art in its multiple facets whilst positioning Mauritius as a cultural and artistic destination through its cultural wealth and heritage. This event is a long-awaited opportunity for local and international artists to showcase their talents after two tumultuous years under Covid-19. »

Moreover, along with the display paintings of several artists, a signing session themed, "Artist Avenue" has also been initiated for this event. Additionally, young talents will also have the opportunity to showcase and express their imagination with the “Little Picasso” session. The second edition of MIAF will also welcome artists from the African continent such as Madagascar, Rodrigues, Seychelles as well as Reunion Island.

This event also aims at giving the opportunity to visitors to purchase works of art, sculptures, paintings, photographs amongst others which will be exhibited and put on sale at the Galerie du Génie, EDITH in Port-Louis. Finally, this edition brings together art and sustainable development through the collaboration with British Council by creating awareness among local artists on the theme 'SDGs through Arts'.
