ITC SheTrades Empowers Mauritian Women Entrepreneurs with Capacity Building to Access Global Markets
ITC SheTrades Mauritius, financed by the government of the United Kingdom, and in partnership with the Economic Development Board (EDB) Mauritius, hosted a three-day workshop from 14th to 16th February to empower women entrepreneurs operating in the apparel and non-apparel industry. The workshop, which was taught by ITC SheTrades Trainer, Mrs Tara Mulhare, aimed to equip the 25 participants with the essential tools to successfully scale up their businesses and prepare them for doing business beyond the boundaries of Mauritius.
Mrs. Tara Mulhare has become a leader in the market known for successfully developing and launching emerging companies. With over 20 years of experience in the fashion industry in various capacities, Tara has reached over 1,500 emerging and established companies from over 90 countries, assisting them with successfully scaling their businesses and reaching the international market.
The first day of the workshop was held at Voila Bagatelle, where the participants had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the global marketplace and key themes pertaining to the fashion sector markets. They also had a chance to review the different career paths available in the industry. The next sessions of the workshop were held at the EDB Mauritius Office in Port-Louis, where the focus was on the key steps to build a true brand identity and understanding the customer in this new normal where traditional brick and mortar business has made way for a new click and mortar industry.
As customer behavior changes, it is important for SMEs to discuss new ways to stay competitive by better understanding sourcing and logistics requirements. The participants were able to gain valuable insights into these areas during these workshop sessions.
The ITC SheTrades Mauritius project has the aspiration to increase the participation of women-led businesses and young women graduates in trade in Mauritius. By fostering and enabling an inclusive business environment, the ITC SheTrades Mauritius Hub aims to improve the competitiveness of women entrepreneurs to access global markets. This workshop was an important part of this initiative, providing women entrepreneurs with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the global marketplace.
