50th Anniversary of The Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between Mauritius and China
In 1972, China was one of the first country to establish diplomatic relationships with Mauritius. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two nations. The Economic Development Board in collaboration with the Embassy of the People's Republic of China has launched a video to showcase this prestigious long - standing diplomatic and economic ties between Mauritius and China.
This jubilee celebration of the diplomatic relations between the two countries is an opportunity to pay tribute to the various achievements and contribution of China in the economic and social development of Mauritius along with the Chinese culture playing an important part of the multi- cultural environment of Mauritius. For over five decades now, the two countries have shared a long-standing friendly tie in various diplomatic, economic and cultural areas forging a deep bond between the two nations. The People's Republic of China has since the 1970s accompanied Mauritius in its economic transition, moving from a monoculture economy to one of the most innovative and vibrant economy in the African continent.
Over the years, Mauritius and the Republic of China have signed numerous agreements of Cooperation in various fields, such as economic cooperation, technology, culture, education, and sports. With the coming into force of the Mauritius - China Free Trade Agreement in January 2021, this historical agreement, will undoubtedly unleash new and expanded opportunities in trade goods, and services between the countries.
To mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment diplomatic relations between Mauritius and China, a reception took place on Friday 15th of April 2022, at Eden Garden in Jin Fei, Terre Rouge. The event was organized jointly by the Chinese Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs whereby Mr. Zhu Liying, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Mauritius emphasized on the strong diplomatic relationship between the Mauritius and China. According to him, the establishment of the first Chinese Cultural Center in Mauritius 30 years ago, is a symbol of the strong and privileged relationship shared between the two nations. The Ambassador also observed that Mauritius can serve as a bridge between China and the African continent, and benefit from the knowledge, products and services that China has to offer in several sectors.
