Chandler Institute of Government: Mauritius Ranks First Among African Countries In Global Index Of Good Government
According to the second edition of the CIG index, Index launched by the Chandler Institute of Government (CIG), Mauritius is ranked 1st in Africa and is among the top 40 countries worldwide. Mauritius ranked 38th globally, the country has topped the majority of the assessments of the indexes and has demonstrated preparedness and good governance during the pandemic period.
The Chandler Good Government, is an annual series index which measures the effectiveness and capabilities of government in 104 countries globally. The index focusses on seven pillars notably, leadership & foresight, robust laws & policies, strong institution, financial stewardship, attractive marketplace, global influence & reputation, and helping people rise.
One significant aspect highlighted in the report is that governments exceling in the frameworks and dimensions (pillars), has coped well in the management of COVID - 19 and has the ability of countries to anticipate and adapt quickly to crisis whilst coordinating effectively, and communicate clearly in good time.
About the CIG Index and its Methodology
The Chandler Good Government Index is a composite Index that measures the capability and effectiveness of governments. The framework and dimensions (pillars) of good governance are derived from interviews and research on what capabilities and characteristics are most important for a government to perform its duties and succeed. The 35 indicators are made up of more than 50 metrics - of which 31 metrics are qualitative data sources.
